Psychology Services

  • Provides family and supportive counselling for mental health diagnoses
  • Provided by licensed and experienced Psychologists
  • Treatment is time-limited, goal-oriented and outcomes-focused
  • An initial assessment is completed before treatment is initiated
  • A treatment program is 12-15 sessions one-to-one with the Psychologist
  • Access to services within 10 business days

PTSD, Mood & Anxiety Disorders, Medication & Substance Issues

Altum Health provides services to address post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mood and anxiety disorders, and/or medication and substance issues.

The first step is an initial assessment performed by a psychologist and/or psychiatrist. The assessment determines suitability for treatment. Treatment can consist of One-to-one counselling sessions, Psychosocial Education, and/or Functional and Behavioural Activation.

Treatment may be augmented with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)

Chronic Pain Symptoms

  • Has your pain lasted for more than six months?
  • Is your pain the result of an injury which should have healed by now?
  • Does your pain get worse when you are stressed or angry?
  • Do you feel a sense of hopelessness when you are in pain?
  • Has your pain medication stopped working, even if your dose has increased?
  • Do you have trouble sleeping because of pain?
  • Does your pain affect your social life or relationships?
  • Is it harder for you to enjoy things because you are in pain?

Interdisciplinary Pain Program

  • This program is for those with prolonged disabling pain resulting in a disruption of daily living.
  • We work closely with the individual client and their Case Manager throughout the program to review goals, the treatment plan and any anticipated discharge planning needs.
  • Outcomes-focused, coordinated, goal-oriented interdisciplinary team.
  • Individualized focus areas can include: minimizing impairments and secondary complications, reducing activity limitations, maximizing participation and quality of life, decreasing environmental barriers.
  • Treatment is offered daily for 6 weeks or 2-3 times per week depending on individual need, up to a maximum of 30 sessions.

Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation Program

  • This program is for those who require specialty rehabilitation with an emphasis on strengthening, function and education.
  • Treatment can occur daily for up to six weeks.
  • Treatment is delivered by an interdisciplinary team that addresses clinical and psychosocial barriers.
  • The program is outcomes-focused and time-limited.
  • The main focus is on managing physical impairments such as reduced range of motion, strengthening, sitting, standing and walking tolerance as well as providing one-to-one education on self-management and home program techniques so that the client can manage their own recovery.

The Treatment Team

  • Occupational Therapist
    The Occupational Therapist helps you learn ways to do day-to-day tasks, such as cooking, cleaning and laundry using different body mechanics, pacing and scheduling of activities.
  • Kinesiologist
    The Kinesiologist helps you understand more about your body. They also help you to practice proper body mechanics, pacing and ergonomics, and any stretching and strengthening exercises prescribed by the Physiotherapist.
  • Physiotherapist
    The Physiotherapist acts as a consultant to the team and provides you with specific stretching and strengthening exercise to be monitored by the Kinesiologist.
  • Rehabilitation Assistant
    The Rehabilitation Assistant works as members of a health care team, under the supervision of and in collaboration with Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. Rehabilitation Assistants are involved with the safe and proficient delivery of activities that have been established as a treatment.

Occupational Rehabilitation Program

  • This program is for those whose functional capabilities do not match current or proposed vocational duties.
  • This is an individualized program, focused on the introduction and application of effective symptom management strategies aimed at improving overall functional tolerances in preparation for return to vocational activity. Our team will also indicate vocational readiness and provide specific recommendations aimed at increasing the success for return to sustained vocational activity.
  • Treatment is provided by an interdisciplinary team that includes a Registered Kinesiologist and a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist
  • Treatment is offered 3-5 times per week for 6 weeks.
  • The main components of this program include:
    • Goal Setting
    • Gym and Strengthening Programs aimed at improving reduced range of motion and muscular strength and cardiovascular conditioning
    • Work Simulation and conditioning aimed at improving tolerances for essential vocational duties as indicated
    • Education topics include: Understanding Anatomy, Proper Body Mechanics, Sleep Hygiene, Return to Work and Activity Pacing.
